Haversham Sailing Club's junior sailing group, the Buccaneers, is open to all Club members under 19. All those under 16 should be accompanied by a parent/carer when joining in with any Buccaneers’s activities. Whilst we do not specify a lower age limit, any child who attends must be able to swim, feel confident in and around water and must be capable of listening to and working to instructions. In reality, five 5 years old is a good starting point, but there will always be exceptions!
During the main sailing season, Buccaneers’s sessions are generally held once a month on a Saturday afternoon, mostly coinciding with family sailing days. The main aim of these sessions is to allow youngsters to enjoy and feel confident on the water.
We then hold racing, for those who can sail a triangular course, every Friday evening as well. Buccaneers’s activities are not only limited to the ‘warmer’ months. During the remainder of the year they have their own get togethers including Halloween party, Christmas party, and swimming sessions where we hire time at a local pool.
The highlight of their year is the annual ‘presentation night’, held in the clubhouse, where trophies and certificates are given for those taking part on Saturdays, and for those who race on Fridays.
Important dates for activities, 2018 – to be confirmed shortly but look at the club's main events calendar for the date of the presentation night in the first quarter of 2018.
Very many thanks to Chris Hughes for all his hard work with the Buccaneers section over recent years, please watch this space for announcements regarding our exciting new programme for 2018.
